Windshield Advanced Safety System Recalibration
Many newer vehicles come with cameras near your windshield. These cameras serve as an advanced safety feature and are also known as advanced driver assistance safety systems or ADAS for short. When properly calibrated, these safety systems can help you and your passengers stay safe and comfortable.
Why do I need to recalibrate my safety system?
New Glass, New Adjustments
Minor differences in the way your windshield attaches to your vehicle can cause calibration concerns with your ADAS. That’s why after each windshield replacement you should also have your safety system recalibrated. In fact, most vehicle manufacturers require a recalibration of the camera in your safety system after a windshield replacement.
Do I have ADAS?
Many newer cars come equipped with an ADAS system. Do you have a safety system with any of the following features: automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, collision avoidance, or other similar warnings? If so, you most likely have a ADAS that will need to be recalibrated after you fix or replace your windshield.
There Are Two Main Types of Safety System Recalibrations
Dynamic Recalibration
This type of recalibration will require a test drive and can take about an hour to complete (some vehicles may require more time). A trained technician will use a specialized device and drive at a specific speed on a well marked road.
Static recalibration
This type of camera recalibration requires a special image to be mounted in view of the front facing camera. This type of recalibration can also take about an hour (some vehicles may require more time).
