Types Of Cracks
Today we’re fixing a bull’s eye crack. Unlike a crack up the windshield, this can be fixed at home if you have the right tools.
Step #1: Clean Glass
The first thing we’re going to do is clean off the chip with a microfiber towel. Use rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner on the windshield to polish off any dirt.
Step #2: Remove Shards
So after you clean off your windshield, you want to take a safety pin or tack to make sure there’s no glass shards left in the hole of the chip.
Step #3: Apply Kit
Next thing you’re going to want to do is to apply the adhesive seal over the crack. The crack needs to be in the middle.
Now that the adhesive seal is on, apply the pedestal. You can now fill the pedestal with the resin.
Step #4: Create Vaccum
Now you can insert the syringe into the pedestal. Use one hand to hold the syringe down and pull upwards on the plunge to create a vacuum seal. All the air or bubble should be sucked out. Now let it sit for 10 minutes
Step #5: Create Air Pressure
The next step is to pull the syringe out to let air in. Then put the syringe back in and put pressure on it to force the resin into the crack.
Let this sit for 10 minutes.
Step #6: Remove Seal & Pedestal
Now to take it off we’re going to use a safety razor to get
underneath and peel it back.
Step #7: Smooth Finish
Take your extra resin and put a drop right on top of the crack. Make sure you’re in direct sunlight when you do this. Take your flat plastic square and place it on top.
Take that flat razor edge and squeegee out any bubbles. Let this sit in direct sunlight for 15 minutes. If it’s a cloudy day it could take an hour
Step #7: Polish WindshieldÂ
After 15 minutes has elapsed get a straight edge to pull off the square. Take your straight edge and go across parallel. You don’t want to scratch the glass you just want to scrape the leftover resin.
Now we’re done, you shouldn’t see the crack anymore. If you have a major crack or just need professional help, visit your local Fast Glass. No appointment needed, we’ll fix your windshield in minutes.
